Apologies to Summer

I feel bad about jumping the gun on Fall excitement. Amber reminded me to enjoy what we have right now. And that picture of me in the parka with the duck face makes me cold.

Then there was last Thursday’s farmer’s market on Daley Plaza. Summer, this is where I really started to regret wishing for fall. Because the produce is so ridiculously abundant, that they have stopped trying to contain it in cute, tidy bushel baskets. They are likely just backing up dump-trucks full of locally grown goodness and depositing GIGANTIC HEAPS OF AWESOMENESS under the various seller’s tents.

The huge pile of multi-colored fresh peppers made me want to do this:

Weeeeee

Weeeeee!

Jumping into a pile of ripe edibles in public is frowned upon. So I restrained myself. But look how lovely they are:

Peppers! And baby Vidalia onions! These roast up into a perfect marriage that would pair nicely with some italian sausage.

What's this?

What's this?

Disapproving Squirrel has been let out of his lengthy timeout. He was allowed to play in the onion patch, but his attitude clearly needs a bit more adjustment. He didn't show proper excitment for the peppers, so was not allowed near them.

Sunflowers that look like saffron colored marigolds. They are so heavy that their necks are slumped. Such a strange posture for a really happy looking flower.

Oh Dear

Disapproving Squirrel is so pissed off.

I found Curious Bun for about 2 bucks at an antique shop on our trip. I thought it might be good for Squirrel’s attitude to have someone around with a healthy curiosity. But he is more jaded than ever and dangerously irritated with his new companion. He is in time-out and will not be allowed on the blog for some time.

I took today off even though we returned home yesterday. I am not sure if I mentioned this new rule before, but I am really loving it. If you have the luxury of paid vacation days and very little responsibility to anything besides two fat felines…I suggest trying out the transitional-day-back-to-normal-life-method. Knowing that you have a day at home to get things in order, before being thrust into your normal routine again, makes the last day of your actual trip nearly stress-free.

I spent my last day off slowing easing back onto the internet. I was slightly horrified to see that I had over 50 emails that weren’t even spam and 297 posts to read on my Google Reader. *MARK ALL AS READ.* Whew. I think this is a sign that I am on the computer WAY too much.

One of the emails waiting in line to be read was a really awesome DNH link from my mom that is worth watching: Duckling Rescue. Enjoy!

I Should Be Packing

I haven’t posted much happiness in the last couple days because I have been crazy busy at work. Like fall-asleep-at-the-computer-just-before-midnight-the-wake-up-at-5:30-am-and-have-work-for-breakfast-busy. Sprinkle in finals week to that mix and you have zombie-brained Boleys. Unless you are Porpus Boley, in that case you just hang out in boxes and bite your toenails in-between snacks.

So this little Door County vacation comes at a great time. We will be packing up and leaving this morning. Disapproving Squirrel is being put in charge. He doesn’t like this one bit.

He is clearly irritated about being left alone with Schween.

I threw out all the fresh flowers that would have gone rotten over the weekend and was thrilled to see this orchid is going strong. I don't know what it is, but I imagine it will last for weeks. I am a big fan.

Oh yeah, it is my birthday on Saturday! My momma sent me my first card. I love it.

I am off to pack now. I will return with many photos of the county. Ciao!

P.S. WATCH THIS. LOVE THIS.

Newbies

Remember these? There are now just a couple ragged leaves from last year left clinging to the tree by our porch. Most all of them have finally fallen, knowing that the new generation has arrived safely. The tattered winter hold-outs remind me of Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web. Oh, circle of life, you are so bittersweet.

Newbies. They are still nervous and curled, but will expand within a day or two.

My itty bitty spoon necklace arrived yesterday in an itty bitty package. I am impressed with how fast it got here and how lovely the letterpress card is inside the box. Garnett Jewelry gets 5 stars from me.

The letterpress makes it feel even more precious. I would be proud to give it as a gift. Bravo, Garnett Jewelry.

Disapproving Squirrel is the only one that still holds a stubborn distaste for my new trinket.

Juice

I woke up with a headache. Now it is gone thanks to Ryan's gift of fresh squeezed juice. I think it is carrot, mango, ginger, orange. Jamba has nothing on this stuff. I shall call it Ryamba.

He also brought over some peeps. Ehhhh. I don't trust them. Neither does mini-squirrel.

Last night I attended the Campfire Ball kick-off hosted at Kiehls on Armitage. There were cocktails, mini cupcakes by Swirlz, raffles, and discounts. A portion of the sales went to support the One Step At a Time Camps for kids with cancer. The main event will be on April 18th at N9ne steakhouse and Ghostbar. You should get tickets!

It was fun to practice my event photography skills again last night (Thanks, Rachel). Now I have a million photos to go through, but it is all fun to me. Here are some of the shots from last night:
