Brown Paper Packages Tied Up with String

What is better than coming home to an unexpected package in the mail? Cookies within! And homemade beef jerky, hand knit hat, CHAPSTICK!!, and a delicious citrus candle. My mom-in-law Donna sends us goody packages throughout the year for holidays and special occasions. The Valentines one we received today had ample love in it. The only thing that compares to getting one of these in the mail, is when my grandma used to send me cookies when I was in school. She somehow would get the peanut butter inside the middle of a chocolate cake style cookie. People would show up in my dorm room with glasses of milk. Just there to “hang out…” with my cookies.

If you would like to be featured in a Daily Happiness photo…please mail a plum cake, pecan bars or a variety of artisan cheeses at your earliest convenience. I just spelled CONVENIENCE all by myself!

Porpus immediately got up on the table to check out the Mercutio-the-dog-scented box on the table. To her joy (torment?) she found a piece of yarn that was to her liking. She wore it for about 45 minutes while I cooked dinner. Please don’t tell her it makes her look fat.

I was so happy to be back in my kitchen instead of eating thai/pizza/chinese food at a conference table with overhead lighting and un-washed creatives, that I have to upload a bonus photo of happiness for the day. My produce plate! Oh, happy produce plate. The attractive Lemons and Pears are so nice to let Garlic sit at the cool kids table. Garlic feels really lumpy next to Tomato, and would prefer not to be judged on looks alone.

Bonus!

Bonus!

I almost uploaded a picture of a whole new pile of chapstick that I bought today. 6 different varietals! But I will keep it to myself, as you have already been subjected to that enough for one year.

Happiness Malfunction

I was at work all weekend. So basically my happiness from yesterday was coming home and laying on the couch for a half-hour before falling asleep. I could barely keep from drooling, let alone post a picture of happiness.

However, here is photo of something that has made me happy over the last week. Amber somehow read my mind and got me the perfect gift. I have been admiring these white textured candle holders in the local boutique home  stores for sometime. No one has ever gotten me a decor present that works more seamlessly with my aesthetic taste and existing scheme. It can be quite a gamble to buy that kind of present for me. Bravo, Amber!

This is my new extra-soft, extra-long, extra-pretty baby alpaca scarf knitted for me by my mother in law, Donna. It is so warm that I had to unzip the head-to-toe parka after walking to the train this morning. This is great, seeing as it will be a high of 5 degrees this Thursday, and we are under a blizzard warning as I type this. *Sad face.* I wore the scarf all day at the office, since I am lucky enough to sit by a window…which is beautiful, but cold.

Something very sad is happening to my little point and shoot camera. It is dying. The flash is done. And my favorite setting, macro focus, is on the fritz. It is also physically cracking in half. Little camera’s days are limited. Don’t tell the little guy, but I am secretly excited for it to break so I can get a digital SLR.

I would love to have a better camera that I have more control over. The daily pictures of happiness would look much happier, as my brother pointed out today. If you are ever thinking about buying new technology, but suffer from indecisiveness or guilt, call Jordan. He will point you in the right direction and make you feel like you need the best of the best. And then he will cheer when you hit the “add to cart” button.

Meet Patrick.

Yes, he is in a wheelchair.

The injury.

The injury.

What can I really say about this? It is the weirdest Christmas present I have ever gotten. Although, now that the rest of my family knows about Etsy’s Alchemy function, I am sure it will not be the last. You can basically post an idea that you have for a custom project on the website. Then artists will get in touch with you and make it for you if they think they have the right skills or interest. I will update this post with the name of the artist that got to make this little guy when my brother gets back to me with her name. (Update: The artist is Amy Lira.)

Patrick is truly one of a kind, and will be hanging out with Murray in the entryway of our apartment. I am hoping that his injury will heal with time. He is enjoying the wheelchair though, and all the extra attention he is getting. He was never much for exercise anyway. Patrick is pleased to hear that he is now on the Internet, as he wishes to be famous one day. I will relay any messages/fan mail that you may have for him.
