Nearly Finished Nest

What to see the nursery? It is pretty much done, minus a few things like adding some maps and globes and more black-out curtain panels that are clearly needed. The answer to “where did you get that” is most likely IKEA and Target. It is an incredibly budget-friendly space.

Ready? Follow me.

This is what you see when you enter. The glorious poo station.

Here is the frontal view of the changing area.

These are one of my favorite parts of the nursery. They are animal prints from Berkley Illustration. Click this photo to go directly to the Etsy Shop.

Pygmy Marmoset!

I love the changing "table" because it is clearly a nice sized dresser that will be with us for years. Top drawer? FULL OF TINY SOCKS.

Here is the lamp light that we will be changing nighttime diapers by. I imagine it will be kicked onto the floor. But it is cute now.

If you are standing by the changing area and turn around to face the opposite wall, this is what you see.

Ceiling entertainment. We will probably also add some crib entertainment accessories at some point I imagine.

The rug is two reversible runners from IKEA that I plan to hook together at some point.

Now we are in the corner looking at the fabulous window wall.

Hello.

These are for treasures.

Here is one of the MANY blankets we have for this little guy. This is made by my mom though. And it matches the walls so I love it.

This little rocker has appeared on Megagood before. It was my mom's when she was little, and then mine when I was a wee-one.

This was also my mom's rocking chair. I have no clue where it is from. But I will be spending a lot of time sitting in this scene.

Grown Up

I feel like such a big girl every time I replace something I bought at IKEA. A couple of years ago, nearly EVERYTHING I owned was purchased from the Swedish wonderland of affordable do-it-yourself home goods. Which is just fine and dandy for a few years, but then your furniture starts to explode or dissolve. They should put expiration dates on all the boxes (oh dear me the BOXES…) so that you know the approximate date of when you will have to completely refurnish your home, due to utter failure of the couch/rug/dresser you just bought.

Everything looks so nice at first. Your apt is stunning! It helps that you are totally high from getting SUCH A GOOD DEAL! Look at how many rooms you furnished! Say, you are smart and good looking. And you have excellent taste in pillow covers!

What is that cracking noise? Oh god…the dresser. It has literally exploded. Fantastic. Great.

Is that a tumble weed? What the hell is all this white fluffy crap? OH…the rug. Awesome. I love how it sheds worse than a cat and also seems to be a lint remover/dirt trap for the world. It used to be so pretty. So fluffy, so clean. What smells like wet cat?

So I am pleased to be cheating on IKEA with West Elm. I love them very much, although their shipping is usually pretty expensive and sometimes slow. But when my mom mentioned a free shipping event last weekend I jumped at the chance to get a decent living room rug. It is perfect! And the Dyson is not interested in ingesting it! Woot!

Yay rug! This is a bit blurry, but you get the idea. Note that the table is an IKEA purchase...and so is the lamp. I love them dearly and apologize if anything I have said here offended them.

Does Porpus look skinnier to you?

P.S. I quit drinking caffiene last week. It was a rough couple of days, but I am so happy that I did. I can sleep through the night! No early morning wake-up-and-worry sessions. No mid-day crashes. And my skin is better. I am taking tea suggestions if you have any.

Cat Eggs

Blue is still my favorite color these days. So I didn’t even bother dissolving the other colors of dye pellets for my Easter egg project. I wanted them to be Robin’s eggs from Tiffany’s. And I wanted to keep them around, so I didn’t hard-boil them. Instead I poked holes on the top and bottom of the egg and blew the guts out.

One of the eggs basically exploded during the excavation process and now lives in the guts pot.

To achive the Tiffany/Robin's egg color I dissolved a full blue pellet and half of the green pellet.

I decided to add a top-coat of shine.

And then I decided to make two bonus cat eggs. Why not?

Happiness Malfunction

I was at work all weekend. So basically my happiness from yesterday was coming home and laying on the couch for a half-hour before falling asleep. I could barely keep from drooling, let alone post a picture of happiness.

However, here is photo of something that has made me happy over the last week. Amber somehow read my mind and got me the perfect gift. I have been admiring these white textured candle holders in the local boutique home  stores for sometime. No one has ever gotten me a decor present that works more seamlessly with my aesthetic taste and existing scheme. It can be quite a gamble to buy that kind of present for me. Bravo, Amber!
